A 1964 JFK document identifies Cubans on a mission to kill Fidel Castro — with all the names censored.
In September 1964, Theodore (Ted) Shackley, chief of the CIA station in Miami, reported on a group of armed men associated with the Agency who were planning to assassinate Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
Commandos associated with a CIA program called AMWORLD were trained in the use of AR-15 and AR-10 rifles and supplied with CIA photographs, Shackley told his superiors at CIA headquarters in Langley Virginia. One of their leaders, he added “headed an infiltration team with a mission of assassinating AMTHUG-1,” the Agency’s code name for Castro.
