Mexico’s president has characterized the assassination of President John F. Kennedy as a “state crime,” the Associated Press reports.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made the remarks two weeks ago while speaking about the 1994 assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio, a candidate from Mexico’s PRI party, long-ruling at the time.

“I came to the conclusion a long time ago that this was a state crime,” the president said in regard to Colosio’s killing in Tijuana, according to AP.

The article goes on to say:

“It wasn’t the only conspiracy theory the Mexican president espoused Thursday.

López Obrador also claimed, without offering any evidence, that the 1963 assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy was also a ‘state crime.’”

López Obrador, former mayor of Mexico City, was elected president in 2018 after two previous unsuccessful runs for the office in 2006 and 2012.
