Good work Jeff. This confirms that Oswald was part of the propaganda campaign to monitor the Pro Castro group with Oswald as a operative for the CIA. Also, a commendation for lying to Congress? That tells you all you need to know about hte CIA. Every tidbit released heads us to the Miami group heading up the assassination with David Sanchez Morales, Joanides, David Phillips and others from the MIami CIA office running the show. They apparently kept running it in 1978. Please keep pusing for more.

Agree with everything you said. Would you also add William Harvey to the list?

Greg Dawson's avatar

Yes, Harvey was there and helped Morales make sure he had the weapons and people to put together the 6 kill teams in the Plaza that day. Harvey was also very involvedd in the drugs for rifles in South America.

Limited hangout ahead!

The CIA will eventually have to lay the blame for the assassination on a few bad apples, a few "rogue agents", all dead now. Nothing more to see. Nothing more to worry about. Move along.

This is a breakthrough. Kudos to Jefferson Morley for staying on this for so long.

But it brings up the question for me- what is the CIA up to around the world today? Do we know what their budget is? Are they expanding or being cut like all other federal agencies?

The military budget is getting a big increase. You can bet the CIA and the rest of the national security surveillance state is getting one too. IMO, this is why the Pentagon can't pass an audit. Hundreds of billions of dollars (adding up to trillions over the years) are siphoned off for secret operations all over the world. My guess is that there's almost no country on earth we don't meddle with.

You wrote " ... what the file does (and does not) tell us about the causes of JFKโ€™s assassination".

By "causes", do you mean motives?

At last. Thank you Jeff/MFF. After a couple of months of CIA scrubbing the files. For what? Iโ€™m looking forward to the analysis and Jeff hopefully being in the loop regarding the pursuit of even more delayed files. My God, pulling teeth is much much easier.

Do you think Justice (then Judge) Kavanaugh, formerly of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, will appogize to Jeff for his final ruling before Trump nominated him to SCOTUS, which denied relief to Jeff and his counsel for the costs of uncovering the Joannides facts "because it was not a matter of national interest."?

Kudos to Jefferson Morley for keeping this story alive and pushing CIA, and the U.S. government more generally, to release historical documents.

Two initial thoughts. One, where are Joannides' monthly reports from December 1962 to April 1964? This is a time period Jeff has previously noted is crucial. At least the "Howard" alias appears to have been definitively established.

Second, I find the description of Joannides' full career in the Award document to be very interesting. Joannides was in a position of responsibility in Greece at the time of the destabilization of Greece's government and for the fascistic coup of 1967. He subsequently went to Vietnam during the Nixon-led military escalation there. A primary component of both the Greece and Vietnam situations was the extensive use of both torture and assassinations. His expertise in covert action, including assassinations, makes him an ideal suspect in the organization of the JFK assassination itself.

Greece in the mid-to-late 1960s and Vietnam (Project Phoenix) in the early 1970s were two of the dirtiest, most violent arenas of CIA activity. Joannides was a very evil man, and from his award document, I think one can conclude that any thought that the CIA component of the JFK assassination concerned only "rogue" agents or officers should be shelved permanently. CIA participation ran through top levels of Agency leadership.

Of course, I have my own reasons for finding the CIA responsible, as a fairly recent (for me) foray into aspects of the CIA's covert influence on the Warren Commission convinced me that the marks of the CIA were all over the assassination and its cover-up. In this, of course, I follow many worthy others. My original research adding to our understanding of likely CIA influence on the construction of the Oswald legend was the topic of two recent articles here at Substack. Interested readers can check out my "Hidden Histories" Substack site.

And how was this memo not considered assassination related?

Obviously cover-up related.

Looks like a limited hang-out. There's an oblique connection to Oswald, not a direct one. No admission of Oswald being his project. They can claim the students were doing their own thing.

So the CIA has never admitted that Joannides ran the DRE?

Thought that was obvious - maybe never confirmed by the agency?

This obviously shows that the CIA was lying about not knowing who the DRE contact โ€œHowardโ€ was โ€” it was clearly Joannides. But weโ€™ve known for over 10 years that Joannides was the DRE contact from the CIA. So what does this new information really add?

They have placed themselves in a corner, the lies are their undoing. From this point on no one in their right mind would believe the CIA was not deeply involved in the murder of JFK. Why! Like I have been saying all things are not as they seem on the surface.

True JFK had many enemies, how could he known how many? It was a well kept secret by CIA And USAEC, in my very strongly held opinion. He posed a very serious threat

As I have written more times than I care to remember JJA's deep entanglement with Israel sealed his fate early on. JJA undoubtedly was full of himself by the time he took on being the Israeli desk at CIA, 1951, his age around 34 with 13 or so years of experience, he was making some big mistakes. He had been warned about Kim Philby in 1950, he obviously didn't take the warning seriously enough as history reveals. Dulles made JJA head of counter intelligence, when Dulles became director in 1953.

JJA was considered one of the founders of CIA, joining the agency in 1947 he was 30 years old.

Zalmon Shapiro had worked at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory from 1949 to 1957, the NUMEC articles of incorporation were filed 3/1/57. This was no natural birth of a corporation, some one had a plan, we need to know who they were.

Shapiro and his backers were in a race to get the contract for developing fuel elements for Hyman Rickover's submarine reactors, a very big deal! Having worked directly with Rickover he knew the 'ropes' and had connections. He was likely diverting fissionable SNM (special nuclear materials, SNM) by the early 1960's. CIA knew this and it is undeniable the forty year old Angleton knew this then. CIA was involved with the USAEC for obvious security reasons. Many records about this relationship are still classified.

Now that we have more files revealing CIA lies about closely held CIA relations with Cubans, CIA lies related CIA activities proving very obvious interest in Oswald and lies about related CIA involvement with activities between Oswald, Cubans it is about time we realized all the implications exposed by this vast volume of information denied by the agency.

Compared to the actual size of the operations involved in the JFK murder the CIA was already involved in the diversion of SNM to Israel, involvement which reached inside the most secret USAEC, and the NSA, seems to amount to a very large intensely criminal operation leading to the large issue of nuclear proliferation. An operation, had JFK lived and exposed that would have meant instant death to CIA and likely some CIA officers. In response CIA did what they do so well, conspired, lied and initially fooled a large segment of the U.S. population of sheep!

The mob and Cubans gave them an avenue to exploit.

Look around the result of Israel having nuclear weapons has with out a doubt caused serious volatility in the Middle East. Who ever was/is behind this deception, IMO is guilty and has enormous amount of blood on their hands and deserve no awards for their actions.

Dulles, Shapiro, JJA and many, many others are responsible for pursuing an agenda that had no place in our government and they damned well knew it. It's the lies and secrecy which reveal this truth. It is also the reason JFK had to die. The Bay of Pigs, sealed JFK and RFK's fate, IMO.

Anyone who thinks this simply isn't the case, IMO has lost their way here. CIA, lost their way by getting to big for their britches and created an undisclosed Achilles heel. A desperate plot to aid the nuclear weapons development to arm a foreign country. JFK definitely changed that equation, he had to go and so did his brother.

But I regress.

The news here is proof CIA was out of control, driven by the fear of getting exposed by their totally unpatriotic actions which, IMO, included one major error, aiding and abetting a foreign country violating every national security provision known at the time. The USAEC went away for failure to stop these actions, IMO, CIA escaped judgement by evoking an executive action against a sitting president and now we understand how deep their deceptions ran. Secrets they were forced to coverup. By now we all know well the coverup forced more and more involvement by more and more people. It is as it appears a colossal cluster phuc.

This story is simply too big to die without the entire truth coming out, live the right life, fight the right fight, and win the right battles or say goodby to your country as you know it!

We as a country have not come to grips with the reasons and truth about the deaths of the Kennedy brothers. Considering the current state of affairs I would say it's time to force an end to this saga. We have new very serious business to tend to.

This might be too much info so be it. I'm currently recovering from being dead a couple of times., May tenth of this year. ( mothers birthday ). Heart attacks will do that to a person. Like so many others age has handed me a couple of rough years, shit happens. I'm on ordered rest and 24 hour monitoring, some of you will find out.

I cannot rest. Now is not the time to give up on anything for me. Just isn't who I am and my son would be proud no doubt.

Y'all have a nice Sunday.
