Jeff, that was so informative. What a gem! Your old friend has quite a history of working in DC and Hollywood. The ultimate combination of cut throat, survival of the fittest businesses. And he's so mellow. Really appreciate the insight into the Helms connection. And what Oliver Stone went through with the oh, so controversial JFK movie that still pretty much holds up to this day. After watching it recently the Donald Sutherland character is truly what made the establishment go crazy. He represented the CIA in the film. Up until JFK came out in 1992, the media rarely covered anything that went against the official story that Lee Harvey Oswald was a lone nut, who acted alone in the murder of JFK. That is what made it so controversial at the time and made Oliver a pariah in Hollywood for years. Sad but true.

Donald Sutherland was an excellent casting choice for that role, he definitely sold it well.

Another superb conversation thank you. This along with the Church discussion first class. Frank Church so long ago made me not give up on the political process. More Frank Churches please!

I was listening but not watching. Which escalante book was he referring to?

Incredible stuff, Jeff. Great listen. Fascinating. Love the way he described how Oliver operated as a film maker and how Hopkins approached his role.

Hamburg’s comments about taking E. Howard Hunt’s statements with a grain of salt confirmed what I long believed: his CIA life of deception facilitated reprogramming truth into fiction both in his public statements and his numerous books of fiction. Hunt craved to tell all as an author craves fame, but as a reader you need a salt mine as you search for his truths. Thanks, Jeff, for the great interview.

Thank you for everything you do everyone. Can someone answer my question? Why would the CIA bring Oswald into Russia as a false defector and then not fix his honorable discharge which was downgraded when he didn't show up for reserve duty? It clearly bothered Oswald because he sent a letter to Connally when he was Secretary of the Navy and they denied his request to reverse the downgrade. Just seems like a loose string for someone they sent to Russia as a false defector. Maybe they just kept telling him they would fix it but all along let it go because they knew they were going to use him in something like.....the Kennedy Assassination and it would fit the disgruntled ex Marine blah blah blah thing?
