I've reviewed much of what has been written about Shapiro's record keeping and the lack of any disciplined record keeping. Activities that cost Shapiro a large amount of money because of his agreement with the USAEC for doing his business. Even Rickover was alarmed by this. Reviewing the few available records of investigations into Shapiro and NUMEC by FBI seem to reveal the FBI investigations being stymied by CIA and DOJ.
Jefferson's take that these are secrets the CIA are still very interested in keeping could be the biggest understatement I have knowledge of him making. The reason being is that what happened there was never sanctioned by any government entity. After reading Roger J. Mattsons, "Stealing The Atomic Bomb" I'm personally convinced the USAEC acted in tandem with the CIA in facilitating Zalmon Shapiro in providing highly enriched U-235, a highly restricted Special Nuclear Material to this day.
Something of a very serious nature does not make any sense about what happened at NUMEC and no explanations are available, other than John Hadden's finding of materials around the Israeli nuclear sites that seemed to originate from the USAEC complex of nuclear materials.
It is what it is and this story should not be allowed to die for the same reasons the JFK murder mystery should be solved.
Those who served at USAEC, FBI, CIA and especially NSA during this time, I believe, got involved in an operation that has led to a serious national security problem for this country.
Search, John Hadden CIA in Israel, John is widely considered the author of a memo for the record claiming he evidence of a diversion of Highly enriched U-235 from the US to Israel see the memo dated March 9, 1972. Now remember Nixon and Ford dissolving the USAEC in 1975. A government secret was withheld by this dissolution and USAEC worrisome history was withheld also.
